Robin Anderson (above), community liaison in the Department of Dance believes in bringing dance to the people. She is organizing a dance "sampler" program at the Gallery Hop in the Short North on Saturday, Nov. 4. The event brings dance to new venues -- in this case, the ice cream shop Emack & Bolio's Ice Cream at 945 N. High St. The evening will feature excerpts and previews of dances that will be peformed at the department's resident and visiting artist performance Dec 1 and 2 in Sullivant Hall Theatre -- including works by Ming-Lung Yang, Michael Estanich, Norah Zuniga-Shaw and Michael Kelly Bruce. The sampler, titled :03 Minute Portions will be presented at the ice cream shop three times that night,
at 7, 8 and 9 pm.

Last weekend, the Men's Glee Club (above) teamed up with the OSU Marching Band to present a football half-time show during the OSU vs. Indiana game, marking the first time the Glee Club has done so in a half-century! They sang two Irving Berlin tunes, accompanied by the band -- Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor (conducted by Bob Ward) and God Bless America (conducted by Jon Woods). According to Ward, the "guys thought it was the coolest thing" to be out on the field.

Ohio native and OSU College of the Arts alumnus Bryan Knicely (Art Education) has been named president of the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC), it was announced this week. Knicely currently is assistant director and accessibility coordinator of the Maine Arts Commission, and will begin his work at GCAC in December. The announcement comes after an 8-month national search. A graduate of Otterbein College, he earned an MA in arts policy and administration at OSU.

James Sanders III (Art Education) presented a guest lecture at the Pratt Institute for the Arts in Brooklyn, NY, earlier this month titled "Queering Arts Education." He also participated in celebrations surrounding the opening of artist Nicholas Cave's exhibition Soundsuits at the Jack Shainmen Gallery in the East Village. Sanders had written the exhibition catalog's intro and essay "Soundsuit Serenade" when the catalog was first released at the exhibition's first showing in Chicago last spring. The catalog is part of a larger "Boxfolio" that includes Cave's haute couture images on blow-up toys, iron-on transfers, posters, a little black book and other objet d'art.

Vera Maletic (Dance) was an invited presenter at the recent conference "Bratislava in Movement/Laban for the 21st Century" in Slovakia.

Ken Rinaldo (Art & Technology) was interviewd by Angela An on WBNS-TV/Channel 10, and presented two of his Spider Bots to the TV audience. Also this month, Rinaldo exhibited a piece in Norway, and his work was presented at an art and technology conference in India.

Robert Ladislas Derr (Art) is one of 30 artists selected for the Photographic Resource Center's "PRC/POV: Photography Now and the Next 30 Years," an exhibition in Boston Nov 2-Jan 28 to showcase artists likely to make a significant contribution in the next three decades.
